The Yuk Ching Charity Trust’s Sunnyside Up Project has entered its eleventh academic year, continuing to provide quality English learning opportunities for underprivileged students and helping them strengthen both their interest and ability in learning English.
During the 2025/26 school year, the Project continued its collaboration with Good Counsel Catholic Primary School, St. Charles School, S.K.H. Kei Wing Primary School and S.K.H. Kei Fook Primary School. By funding after-school English enhancement classes, the Project helps students consolidate their English foundations, build confidence in learning and prepare for admission to English-medium secondary schools.
Feedback from students and parents this year has been highly encouraging. According to surveys conducted by the four participating schools, more than 90% of students and parents agreed that the Sunnyside Up Project had increased students’ interest in learning English and improved their English proficiency. They also indicated that students enjoyed participating in the Project’s English enhancement classes, reflecting the positive response received from both students and parents.
The participating Primary 6 students also achieved encouraging secondary school placement results. A total of 54 Primary 6 students from the four participating schools joined the Project during the 2025/26 school year. Among them, 29 students, or approximately 54%, gained admission to Band 1 English-medium secondary schools.
The students’ achievements in English learning and secondary school placement reflect not only their dedication, but also the importance of the collective support provided by schools, teachers and parents. The Yuk Ching Charity Trust is delighted to see participating students gradually develop their English proficiency and confidence, laying a stronger foundation for their further education and personal growth.
Looking ahead, the Yuk Ching Charity Trust will continue working closely with its partner schools to create more English learning opportunities for students in need, encouraging them to pursue continuous improvement, realise their potential and open the door to broader educational and future development opportunities.
