Yuk Ching Charity Trust Food and Resources Centre collaborated with Crystal Volunteers and The Hong Kong Society for the Aged on 4th December 2016 in a home visit event in Tsuen Wan Shek Wai Kok Estate. The Food Centre opened for registration between 16th and 20th January 2017. 201 needy residents in Shek Wai Kok Estate registered and we visited 100 of them on the 23rd and 24th.
Volunteers assisted in registration
Registration this time was different from referrals from other organizations. Direct registration meant we develop a data base and have direct contact for future events. More than 90% of the registered were elderly and 30% of them were either single residents or couple households. Some of the registered were disabled or from low-income families. They all received biscuits and tableware after registration and we gave them lucky money and noodles during our visits.
With help from Mr Chung from Care and Concern Action and Mr Suen from Tai Chi course, 26 volunteers were invited to help in registration and home visits. Ms Jenny Keung even spared her time every day and donated 216 canned fish for the needy. We thank all our kind volunteers once again for their time and effort.
