Yuk Ching Charity Trust established Food and Resources Centre in Tsuen Wan Shek Wai Kok Estate in 2017 and arranges gift packs to the needy residents on a regular basis. Up to April 2018, more than 1000 residents have registered and more than 90% of them are elderly. The Trust organised different events to serve the old people in the estate for the past year, such as deliver gift packs, festive presents and home visits.
On 28th April 2018, the first Elderly Fun Day at Shek Wai Kok Community Hall was held. We invited 200 elderly for the event, some of them are single-living elderly and some are older than 80 years old. Participants enjoyed the performances, games, lucky draws and gift distribution. Our trustees also joined the event to show their care to the elderly.
Volunteer group, Gliding Children, has worked with us before in many home visit activities. The volunteers performed for the participants this time and guided the elderly in playing games and doing exercises. All participants appreciated their efforts and clapped their hands joyfully.
Ms Jenny Keung, an experienced singer and enthusiastic volunteer, performed for us. She has participated in home visits many times before. Though she was a bit sick that day, she sang whole-heartedly for the elderly. The old people joined the singing and it was the climax of the event.
After numerous performances, it came to the gift presentation. The Trust prepared rich gift packs to the participants, including rice, oil, noodles, biscuits. Supermarket coupons and rice cooker were prepared as gifts for lucky draws. All the elderly were happy and satisfied with the performance and gifts.
A team from Crystal Volunteers helped in venue setting, logistics and reception. The hall was decorated with colorful balloons. They also assisted the elderly throughout the day and the event progressed smoothly and orderly. Their hard work was important to the success of the event.
We are thankful to all the volunteers in the event. Your help meant a lot to the elderly, making them feel the care and love from the community. Yuk Ching Charity Trust and the Food and Resources Centre will continue to hold different activities to show our care to the needy old people.
