Organized by Yuk Ching Charity Trust, co-organized by Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre (Sham Shui Po) and fully supported by Crystal International Group Limited and its volunteer teams, the “Charity Begins at Home” event was successfully held on November 29 in Sham Shui Po. The initiative delivered gift packs and daily necessities to 400 elderly residents living alone or as elderly couples in public housing estates, providing practical support while fostering community care and mutual assistance.
On the event day, more than 200 volunteers participated, including members from Crystal Volunteer Team, Crystal Properties Volunteer Team, Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS), and various schools and community groups such as Nam Wah Catholic Secondary School, The Mission Covenant Church Holm Glad College, Ko Lui Secondary School, S.K.H. Kei Fook Primary School, Good Counsel Catholic Primary School, and Island Harbourview Volunteer Team. Volunteers visited homes and community points in So Uk Estate, Un Chau Estate, and Lei Cheng Uk Estate, delivering thoughtfully prepared gift packs and engaging with elderly residents to understand their daily needs.
According to Yuk Ching Charity Trust, the focus of the event was not only on material support but also on strengthening community bonds through cross-sector collaboration among corporations, organizations, and schools. The initiative also encouraged youth and local residents to participate in volunteer services, promoting intergenerational interaction and creating a lasting positive impact on the community.
The organizers expressed gratitude to all volunteers and supporting groups for their contributions and look forward to continuing similar caring initiatives in the future to provide tangible assistance to more residents in need.
