YCCT launched the Rainbow Project in 2011, aiming to provide English tutoring subsidies for underprivileged students and help them improve their English proficiency. The project has achieved remarkable results, and most of the participating students have made progress in English.
In August this year, the trustees of the YCCT visited five participating secondary schools and had face-to-face exchanges with the beneficiary students. They learned that the students who participated in the program for one year or more not only could use the subsidies to attend tutoring classes outside the school, but also learned to be self-disciplined and hard-working. The sixth-form students shared that the Rainbow Project was very helpful for them to prepare for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam, but the most important thing was still their own hard work.
The 36 S6 students who participated in the project this year performed well in the DSE English subject. 33 (92%) students obtained level 2 or above (pass), of which 14 (47%) obtained level 3, and 3 (8%) obtained level 4. In addition, 19 (53%) students successfully enrolled in university bachelor’s degree programs, 12 (34%) students chose associate degree programs, 4 (11%) students enrolled in higher diploma programs, and 1 (2%) student enrolled in foundation diploma program.
Trustees of YCCT said that they would continue to promote the Rainbow Project and support more students in need to achieve breakthroughs in English learning.
