【Mainland China Scholarships/Subsidy】Shaoguan Charity Walk 2019

Shaoguan Charity Walk (“the Walk”) is one of the annual events of Yuk Ching Charity Trust (“the Trust”). The 2019 Walk was held on 16 March 2019 in Qujiang, Shaoguan. The Trust projects in Shaoguan include primary to university scholarships, eye cataract operations for poor elderly people, medical equipment for hospitals and rural clinics, school education facilities and tree planting.

This year, Mr. Kenneth Lo, Chairman of Crystal International Group Limited, Mrs. Yvonne Lo, Chairman of Yuk Ching Charity Trust and Trustees of the Trust joined the Walk to meet the scholarship students at the Qujiang Middle School and eye cataract patients. They were accompanied by senior Qujiang government officials.

Hope Vision Project

Eye cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Many poor elderly people in the rural area of Shaoguan suffer from eye cataracts and their families cannot afford normal operation fees. In 2009, the Trust launched the “Hope Vision Project” in collaboration with Qujiang Communist Youth League, Qujiang Health Bureau, Qujiang Peoples Hospital and Qujiang Volunteers Association. Over one thousand patients have benefited from the Trust’s free eye cataract operations to regain their eye sight to the joy and happiness of their families.

Mr. and Mrs. Lo visited Qujiang Peoples Hospital and exchanged warm greetings with the elderly patients and their family members, and presented to them red packets and vacuum flasks. The elderly people expressed their heartfelt gratitude with a banner as a token of their appreciation.

The Hospital thanked the Trust for its continual support of the “Hope Vision Project”. Mr. and Mrs. Lo thanked the Hospital and Qujiang Volunteers Association for their compassion and dedication to help serve the poor elderly people.

Scholarship ceremony

At the Qujiang Middle School, Mr. and Mrs. Lo presented scholarship certificates to 140 students attending the Ceremony.

Students were separated into different groups. They led a tour of the school and shared their aspirations and ambitions to the Trustees. They also received encouragement and invaluable advice on various aspects of livelihood and education from Trustees.

The Trust will continue to maintain a close relationship with the Shaoguan Qujiang government authorities to support education for the students in need.
